Anglepoise Type 1228 table lamp

The Original Anglepoise lamp was designed in 1933 by the British designer George Carwardine. Carwardine was a motor car designer who applied his engineering skill to build a lamp which mimicked the joints of the human arm. The joints and spring tension allow the design lamp to be placed in a wide range of positions and remain stationary without the need for clamping. The original Anglepoise was manufactured by Herbert Terry & Sons in 1934. The design is characteristic of the functional approach to office and domestic design that was dominant in the 1930s.

The Type 1228 comes in silver with table base, and has a shade to mimic a bankers light.
